Hello world! (again)

Posted by Jeff Categories: Uncategorized

I finally had enough of the downtime and silly excuses from the domain host that I have used for the past 10 years or so. I had to leave them behind and switch hosts today so please excuse the dust while I get settled in here.

Hopefully this move will lead to bigger and better things for the site.

  1. hi jeff
it’s good to see the change coming to your site but excuse personnaly i find myself lost comparing to your old site
ididn’t find all your beneficient articles and where is the forum.
other thing for my first entrance i couldn’t log in that’s mean my old count was deleted so i was obliged to create another one.

i think the transition to the new look would be slowly and rationaly.
    thanks again and good luck
i hope from my deep heart all the bests
    with regards

    • Naturally I too would have preferred to transition slowly to a new host. Unfortunately I didn’t have that luxury. My old domain host simply vanished and took my site/email with them right when I was passing files to/from a client…very bad timing.

So, I cut my loses with the old host and did what I felt would be best in the long run.

  3. hi Jeff,

i stumbled across a post you made referring to a studio setup lighting and wished I could download your example file kelvin_start.zip but it’s no longer online… do you have plans to reinstate it or could you email the file? it looks very helpful…

  4. Not sure at this point if/when I’ll repost those older files or perhaps just start with updated versions and/or new files, etc. It’s all up in the air at this point as I’m basically still trying to nail down how I want the site here to look & function.

  7. Hey Jeff,

What happened with the old site? I was not able to visit your site for a week and now I find this new one. I hope you get to put the same tutorials on this new one and more.

  8. Hey, Just wanting to wish you better luck with the new site.. i have been following various topics of yours from the old site and on CGSociety about new ways of lighting to give more variance in renders, for 3ds max and mental ray, at the moment i am currently involved with interiors and daylight for a housing project im working on.. but i find all of your posts and information useful :) cant wait for the new site to be up and running fully :)

  9. hi i have 3 question for a long time and i culdn find the anwers any place so you are kind of my last hope since i like to use mental ray over vray i noteced that if a use de vray hdri in the enviroment in max its create a spherical map thependending of the resolution of my hdri but.. when i do the same in mental ray it strecht it no matter how big the resulution is and id like to used that way instead of using a sphere mesh and put the map there .also i allways discus with people about if the sistem unit should match with the max visual units un the viewport
couse that what i been told when i did the autodesk official training here in my shitty cauntry (chile) (and that explaing my spelling too)to aboyd ligth problems when using the photometric ligths aaaand.. y saw you tut. about using the mrsky portal and i cant make them to act like ligth no matter what i do just start to iluminating my scene when put a skyligth and i dont know if that is the way of doing it but in you tut you didnt mention that as a condition to meke them work so i hope i didit make you dizzib with my questions but i neeed some anwers pleeasee

  12. Hi Jeff,
I want some help concerning RPF file compatibility with mentalRay, because i want that RPF file for Z Depth in the after effects composition, i got a big yellow spot in the sky, i used Daylight system + Mr sky in the environment.
    - Please do you have any solution using RPF file with mental Ray ?
-If not, Do you suggest using any similar formats ?

    Thanks a Lot !!
