Website update

Well, the server upgrades have pushed me into finally updating my website.  I thought it might be more natural for me to have a blog style website instead of my usual 1990'ish style static site.

Glad to see that your site will still exist. Always following your work and blogs great learnings resources. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Are you planning to put your old example scenes on this blog they where lot's of interesting obsolete stuff but pretty good to help to learn old techniques.

    Thanks and good work.

Actually since I'm revamping everything I'll probably update those old files and throw in a few new ones I have lying around here.

To be safe with compatibility I may put those existing old files in one archive for download too though.

(Thanks for the post! Glad to know that's working)

Nice to see you have a new site mate. I hope things have improved for you since last year.

I've very much enjoyed following your "blog/site/tutorials/everything" over the years. I pretty much suck and play around with 3D as a hobby but your examples were frequently the ones that rolled up in my adventures. Hope everything is going well on your end as far as 3D being a full time gig (because of your location).

Hey Patrick, afraid things are about the same but I won't complain as they could always be worse. Plus I think most all of us are feeling a crunch these days.

Thanks for the comment Zoli. Glad to hear some of the stuff I shared has been helpful. FWIW I think a lot of us are doing 3D as a hobby these days, intentional or as a byproduct of this economy.

    Hi Jeff,

Upgrades are always good. I like the new look and feel. definitely a winner. Quantum leaps over the 90's style site. Also a big fan of your work, forums, tips and tricks; keep up the good work.

    Jeff

I purchased your Hot Rod tutorial...nice work you are a pro.

Could you put together a tutorial on creating a realistic ocean surface using mr? I will purchase it.

If you have to render a lot of water scenes you may want to consider: http://www.afterworks.com/DreamScape.asp?ID=1

The DS water surface mesh works with mr but the Dreamscape materials do not. You could assign a mental ray compatible material to the Dreamscape water mesh or render the DS water and DS materials with Scanline/VRay and composite it with your mr renders.

    Thanks Jeff.

One more question if you don't mind. I created a plane and applied a wood material to it. I then created a plane an placed a bitmap on it. How can I keep the bitmap independent of the lighting and reflections. In other words when rendered out the bitmap looks exactly the same as the original.

    Thanks
