Multi layered materials

Blending and mixing materials together in 3ds Max with mental ray has always been one area that seems more complex than what it should be (IMHO). I'll usually see at least one question per week on the topic of mixing materials for labels or similar things.
In this post I'll share one method that I'll use from time to time that may work for you in some scenarios. hit the "read more" button for additional info.
Bump and Displacement combiners in 3ds Max 2011

If you have 3ds Max/Design 2011 you may have noticed the bump & displacement combiners are missing. I've updated the adsk_Utility_Shaders.mi to include the phenomenon declarations for these to enable them in 3ds Max/Design 2011.

I thought this file might make for a good kick off on the new site...provided I don't exceed my bandwidth for this month. You'll find a link to the scene as well as a brief description of it after clicking the "Read more..." option.
I zipped the file using the 7zip application because it does an outstanding job on compression. Don't worry, it's a small application and won't take long to download or take up much space.
